Standings are computed from every final score, so they update minutes after each game. Seven teams in each conference make the playoffs: the four division winners (seeds 1-4) and three Wild Cards (seeds 5-7). A tie counts as half a win.

How NFL Standings, Seeding and Tiebreakers Work
How the standings are ordered
Teams are ranked by winning percentage, with a tie counted as half a win. Each of the 32 teams plays 17 games: six against its three division rivals, the rest against teams from other divisions on a rotation set by the league.
Playoff seeding: 1-4 and 5-7
Seven teams per conference make the playoffs. The four division winners take seeds 1 to 4, ordered by record, even when a Wild Card team has a better record. The three best remaining teams are the Wild Cards, seeds 5 to 7. Only the No. 1 seed has a first-round bye; in the Wild Card round 2 hosts 7, 3 hosts 6 and 4 hosts 5.

How are NFL standings decided?
